UN alarming report

The share of children among the victims of human trafficking in the world has tripled in the last 15 years, and women remain the main target of this criminal activity, according to the World Report on Human Trafficking, presented by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

Representatives of organized crime groups are mainly involved in trafficking. Victims are often found on social networks where users search for new acquaintances or ads for vacancies.

According to Geda Fahti Wali, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, millions of women, children and men around the world lack access to employment, education and social assistance in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, increasing their risk of being trafficked.
