Sergei Shamba, Secretary of the De facto Security Council of Occupied Abkhazia, says that Georgia should also be interested in restoring the railway from Armenia to Russia via Abkhazia.
As Shamba told Russian media, this issue was also discussed 10 years ago.
«There were serious discussions, but we could not reach an agreement due to the position of the Georgian side. Tbilisi demanded that the Abkhazian section of the railway be renamed the Abkhazian section of the Georgian Railway, as it was in Soviet times, which we refused. Now that the opening of the railway between Armenia and Russia through the North Caucasus has become urgent, the proposal of our Parliament has logically emerged. If we want to develop peaceful initiatives in the Caucasus, it is necessary to open all communications, we must talk to each other and trade. «We should talk about this issue with Georgia as well, because they should be interested in restoring the railway traffic,» Shamba said.
